A walk in the night by Alex Laguma
Alex La Guma's short story "A Walk in the Night" is set in and around District Six, a dismal neighborhood of Cape Town, South Africa. Michael Adonis, the protagonist, has lost his job at the metal sheet factory after an argument with his white supervisor. After a day of wandering about his neighborhood, Michael drinks with a man named Uncle Doughty, gets into a fight with him, and accidently murders him. The local police officer, Raalt, a racist, concludes that the culprit must be Willieboy, whom he chases down and kills.
