CHEMISTRY LEARNER'S BOOK
3
Chemistry impacts our daily lives in several ways. Application of chemistry at industrial or even cottage scale is essential in providing our basic needs of food, clothing, shelter, health, clean air, etc. Studying Chemistry, therefore, empowers learners to explore the different materials in their environment and how to manipulate them and transform them into useful things.
This New Vision Chemistry Book Three is a continuation of Books One and Two. It is an active learner-centred book that was specially structured for the learners to delight in learning Chemistry and empower them not to merely acquire knowledge of Chemistry for its own sake, but apply it, to gain a grounding to live a good life, such as, to make educated choices about consumer products and management of resources.
Throughout this textbook, the learners shall be engaged in several activities and experiments designed to interest them to develop the skills of observation and discovery, which are the pillars of any scientist. The learners shall explore problems and suggest solutions. The activities are particularly crafted to trigger the learners to apply their knowledge of Chemistry to propose solutions to real-life problems, thereby catalysing the learner's competitiveness in this 21st Century global value chain.
This book shall also prepare learners to pursue science-related disciplines in higher education in line with Uganda's Vision 2040 conceptualisation of Strengthening Fundamentals (Infrastructure. Human Capital, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Innovations, Security and Defence).
Generic skills, essential life skills as well as appreciation of other crosscutting issues. have been reinforced to help produce a well-rounded and patriotic individual, who appreciates their duty in contributing to a better Uganda.
