The Caucasian Chalk Circle

BERTOLT BRECHT was born in 1898 in Germany. At the age of nineteen, he began to study medicine at Munich University and was soon after called upon to serve as a medical orderly in the army. He developed a revulsion for war, a feature that is manifested in his early works, chiefly comprising poetry. Brecht started his theatre career as a dramatic critic to a newspaper later joining theatre in the city of Munich where he wrote plays and published poetry, working under two leading German producers at the time: Max Reinhardt and Erwin ` Piscator. He was thus not just play writer, but also a working producer. At the time of his death in 1956, he was a popular playwright running his own theatre and having written many plays.
