The River Between, a 1965 novel by Kenyan novelist Ng?g? wa Thiong'o, was published as part of the famous Heinemann African Writers Series. It depicts the narrative of the separation of two nearby Kenyan villages due to religious conflicts in the early twentieth century. The enmity between them resulted in widespread hate among the adults on both sides. The story follows Waiyaki, a youthful leader, as he struggles to reconcile the two villages of Kameno and Makuyu through sacrifice and grief.
The novel is set in Kenya's "White Highlands" during the colonial period, and it takes place in the mountains.
